This short film looks at how we can use our voice, power and privilege to be an effective ally in the workplace to people from minority or marginalised groups.
Description
Allies are individuals who stand in solidarity with people from marginalised or minority groups, such as the LGBTQ+ community, women, older people, people from an ethnic minority background or those with a disability, to help tackle bias, discrimination and prejudice. This short film explains what it means to be an effective ally and sets out practical steps that allies can take to support people who are experiencing micro-incivilities, bullying, harassment and other inappropriate or exclusive behaviour and help to build a fairer and more inclusive working environment.
Course Objectives
- What it means to be an ‘ally' and the different things that allies can do
- Some of the minority and marginalised groups to whom we can be allies
- Why understanding other people's lived experience is key to being an effective ally
- How allies can help tackle micro-incivilities, inappropriate behaviour and discrimination. the importance of awareness, empathy, action and authenticity when acting as an ally
