Hand and Arm Vibration
The dangers of exposure to vibration at work and how to avoid health issues.
Description
Hand arm vibration syndrome and carpal tunnel syndrome affect thousands of people. Symptoms include numbness and tingling in the hands and can result in difficulty with gripping objects. Thousands of workers use vibrating tools in their day to day jobs, putting them at risk of health complications after extended exposure. Control measures can lessen this risk considerably, so it's incredibly important that staff know how to protect themselves from the dangers.
Meet Charlotte and Tony. Charlotte uses sanding tools and oscillating saws to produce prosthetic limbs. Tony works on demolition sites using concrete breakers and scabblers. Their jobs are very different but they have one thing in common: hand arm vibration. Millions of us are at risk of developing Hand Arm Vibration Syndrome (HAVS) or other health complications from exposure to vibrating tools. This course explores the dangers of exposure to vibration at work and what can be done to avoid health issues.
