Neurodiversity is the term that describes the naturally occurring variation in the human brain. These variations can impact how we interact with people, how we process information, our attention, mood, coordination and other brain functions. Although the term ‘neurodiversity’ refers to all of us, it is commonly associated with certain conditions or neuro differences such as dyslexia, ADHD, dyspraxia, autism, Tourette’s syndrome and others. Studies suggest that as many as 1 in 7 people could be neurodivergent, meaning that organisations that fail to meet the needs of their neurodivergent staff, customers and service users are neglecting a significant demographic. 

This course has been designed as an introduction to neurodiversity, and looks at both the strengths that neurodivergent thinkers can bring to the workplace and the challenges they can face, and explores strategies and inclusive practices for creating conditions and environments that enable neurodivergent people to engage and thrive.

We are now in post-production stage following the completion of filming this month. Lived experiences will be made available early September, with the course and video files to be published a month later.

For now, I can provide a brief overview:

Domestic abuse can take many different forms and is not always easy to spot – even the person on the receiving end themselves may not recognise it for what it is.There can be many reasons why people experiencing domestic abuse are reluctant to speak up or seek help, from fears around their personal safety to concerns about being judged by their friends and family, employer or colleagues. 

Domestic abuse is not just a personal matter for people to deal with in private, but a key concern for all organisations, and being able to spot where domestic abuse may be occurring, and taking appropriate action to protect and support staff, is a crucial aspect of an employer’s duty of care.

This course will look at the different forms that domestic abuse can take, its prevalence and its impact, and sets out how to spot the warning signs that someone may be experiencing abuse and what organisations can do to ensure they are providing appropriate help and support for victim-survivors among their employees.

We are currently undertaking a comprehensive update to our Maternity and Paternity course, to be called ‘Supporting new and expectant parents at work’. This will be ready in August, but I just wanted to give you advance notice. A summary for you:

Becoming a parent is an important moment in a person’s life – and as their employer or manager, you have a key role to play in supporting them at the start of their parenthood journey. The process starts from the moment you are informed of a pregnancy, and continues far beyond the parent’s return to work afterwards, and the investment you make in effective communication, planning and support will be essential both for their well-being and their ongoing commitment to you as their employer.

Employee maternity and paternity will also impact on your other staff and on the organisation as a whole, so the effective management of any transitions and changes will be crucial. Developed in partnership with some of the UK’s leading parenthood experts, this course takes you through the process of working with new and expectant parents and managing the implications of maternity and paternity for the wider organisation.
