Description
This course prepares employees, contractors and visitors to respond safely and effectively to chemical spills in the workplace. It covers the risks posed by fuels, oils, acids, alkalis and solvents, and explains what a chemical spill kit contains and when to use one. Learners are guided through the full step-by-step response procedure, from assessing the area and checking for injury, to containing, absorbing and disposing of the spill safely. The course also addresses when not to attempt clean-up, and how to escalate spills that are large, unidentified, or pose a fire risk. Throughout, the course reinforces compliance with the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations (COSHH) 2002 and, where relevant, the Dangerous Substances and Explosive Atmospheres Regulations (DSEAR) 2002, including the duties of both employers and employees. Reflective questions encourage learners to consider their own workplace practices, and a final assessment checks understanding of the key procedures.
