Sharps Awareness: Risks and Safe Handling

Facilities, cleaning, transport and site staff may encounter sharps during routine tasks such as waste handling, cleaning, vehicle checks or working in public and shared areas. This course explains what should be treated as a sharp, why sharps injuries can be serious, and how to reduce risk when sharps are found unexpectedly or disposed of incorrectly. It also covers the immediate actions to take if an injury occurs, including first aid, reporting and follow-up responsibilities under UK health and safety law.
