A moment worth celebrating: VinciWorks and GBRF won GOLD at the Learning Technologies Awards 2025

Last night at the Park Plaza Westminster Bridge, in a room packed with some of the biggest names in learning and compliance, VinciWorks and GB Railfreight took home the top award for Best use of learning technologies for compliance and risk management.

And this wasn’t a small category. We were up against some exceptional organisations: Monzo Bank, Fujitsu, The Salvation Army, HSBC and more. Serious competition. Serious projects with a fantastic spread of learning technologies. And we won.

This award recognises something far bigger than a single project. It validates the belief that has guided VinciWorks for years: compliance learning should transform behaviour, reduce risk and build trust.

GB Railfreight operates in one of the most safety-critical, heavily regulated environments in the UK. Before our partnership, their compliance training was fragmented and inconsistent, with each department carrying out their own training. Completion rates hovered around 60 per cent. There was no unified view of training for regulators, and plenty of duplicated spend.

Together, VinciWorks and GB Railfreight changed all of that.

What we achieved together

The journey to this award was not just about deploying training but fundamentally transforming how compliance is approached. From the very beginning, the goal was clear: we needed to change not only how GB Railfreight trained its staff but also how they thought about compliance in the first place.
The results speak for themselves, demonstrating a profound shift in both behaviour and risk management:

Win: Completion rates soared from 60% to 96% to 100% in just two quarters. This is a remarkable leap that shows how engagement can grow when compliance becomes a part of the culture.

Win: Department for Transport inspectors highlighted the shift in security culture as a key reason for the success of their inspection, acknowledging the improvements made in training.

Win: The ISO 27001 auditors accepted VinciWorks’ version-controlled LXP reporting as key evidence, proving our system’s reliability and effectiveness.

Finally, ESG-related training completions gave GB Railfreight a measurable competitive edge in tenders, reinforcing the long-term value of embedding compliance across the business. This transformation focused on creating a lasting change in culture, behaviour, and risk mitigation, all of which directly contributed to GB Railfreight’s long-term resilience and success.

How we delivered it

GB Railfreight used the VinciWorks Portal to consolidate all learning into one hub, and our in-browser editor allowed Ash Wedderburn and the team to update, tailor and deploy compliant content in minutes, without waiting for vendor changes.

Training became digestible, relevant and personalised. It reached frontline teams on iPads. It fits around shift patterns. Learners voluntarily returned for more modules.

When learning becomes accessible, responsive and grounded in real risks, it becomes part of a company’s culture, not an annual task.

A win powered by our people

This award is the result of genuine collaboration between two organisations working as one team, with one goal.

On our side, every department played a part. Product and development delivered technology that makes complex compliance simple and accessible. Our course creators produced content that staff actually want to complete. Sales, support and account management built a relationship with GB Railfreight rooted in trust, transparency and shared goals. Marketing ensured the story was told clearly and recognised publicly. And our back-office teams made sure everything ran smoothly behind the scenes.

But none of this would have been possible without GB Railfreight’s partnership and commitment. Their L&D and IT teams embraced the process fully, shaped the learning strategy, tested ideas, gave honest feedback and drove the cultural shift inside the organisation. They didn’t just implement training, they co-designed it with us. The move to a centralised portal, the weekly course updates through the in-browser editor, the phishing remediation cycle and the governance model were all built together.

This win belongs to both organisations. It proves what can happen when a client and a provider stop operating at arm’s length and instead work side by side toward a shared mission: reducing risk, strengthening safety and building a culture where compliance truly matters.
