VinciWorks updates its course Data Protection: Privacy at Work

As the countdown to GDPR implementation progresses, we have refreshed our course Data Protection: Privacy at Work to ensure users benefit from the latest in policy and practice.

New modules have been added and existing ones updated to take account of the coming data protection regime; both across Europe and in the UK specifically with the introduction of the new Data Protection Bill.

New modules

Global Data Protection Module

An in-depth, line by line comparative analysis of data protection legislation and regulations across more than 70 major countries. View a summary of data protection rules compared to GDPR for one country at a glance, or compare and contrast multiple jurisdictions to ensure staff all around the world understand their data protection obligations.

International Data Transfer Module

One of the critical aspects of GDPR is tighter rules around the transfer of data to non-EEA countries, or those that have not been assessed as adequate from the European Commission. This module takes users through which countries have adequacy assessments, and the rules governing transfer of data abroad.

Content updates

Alongside new modules, existing content has been refreshed since the course was launched late in 2016. This is because more information about the operational impact of GDPR has become available and the UK’s Information Commissioner has issued updated guidance for business, which the course is based on.

The principles of data protection have been updated in line with GDPR guidance, along with direct marketing rules, third party marketing lists, social media and conditions for processing data. As further information becomes available from the EU’s Article 29 Working Party, guidance from the forthcoming Data Protection Bill and practice updates from the ICO, the course will be updated further.

Forthcoming updates

e-Privacy Regulations

Training on the EU’s new Regulation on Privacy and Electronic Communications, due to come into force at the same time as GDPR. This module focuses on new rules around online marketing, cookies, Wi-Fi location tracking and the use of content and metadata.

Data Protection Bill

New legislation in the UK will both implement GDPR into UK law and set out the various derogations that will be in effect in the UK. While GDPR will be automatically implemented across the EU, the UK Data Protection Bill will remain the primary source of data protection legislation to ensure a smooth transition after Brexit.

How are you managing your GDPR compliance requirements?

GDPR added a significant compliance burden on DPOs and data processors. Data breaches must be reported to the authorities within 72 hours, each new data processing activity needs to be documented and Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIA) must be carried out for processing that is likely to result in a high risk to individuals. Penalties for breaching GDPR can reach into the tens of millions of Euros.
