Description

The SRA Standards and Regulations are built around seven core principles that set out the ethical and professional expectations for everyone working in the legal profession. These principles apply both inside and outside the workplace, including personal conduct and online behaviour. This short course focuses on how those standards operate in practice. Drawing on real enforcement decisions and hearings before the Solicitors Disciplinary Tribunal (SDT), the course examines cases where firms and individuals have fallen short, exploring what went wrong, why it happened, and how similar issues could have been avoided.

Rather than repeating foundational content from the full SRA: Standards and Regulations course, this course is designed to reinforce understanding through real-life examples and scenario-based questions based on recent judgments. It also explores less clear-cut cases, helping learners recognise regulatory risk in “grey area” situations and understand the fine professional boundaries they are expected to maintain. New joiners are still encouraged to complete the full version of the SRA: Standards and Regulations course.

Course Objectives

  • Identify how the SRA Principles apply to real-life professional and personal conduct
  • Recognise behaviours and decisions that commonly lead to regulatory breaches
  • Distinguish between clear misconduct and more ambiguous “grey area” situations
  • Apply appropriate steps when concerns about conduct or compliance arise
