This conversational learning course is designed to support staff in understanding and fulfilling the requirements of the Office for Students' Condition E6 in the prevention and reporting of harassment and sexual misconduct. It also covers bystander intervention, bias and freedom of speech duties.

The course explores these critical issues through drama scenarios, subject matter expertise, and contributions from lived experience, encouraging reflection through dialogue to help staff confidently support students and foster a positive campus culture. While the primary focus is on student wellbeing, it is equally vital that staff recognise their role in creating and maintaining a workplace culture free from harassment and sexual misconduct, including staff-to-staff interactions.

Course Objectives

  • Recognise what constitutes harassment and sexual misconduct under Condition E6.
  • Understand the principles of informed, voluntary consent.
  • Identify when speech or behaviour crosses the line into harassment.
  • Understand how freedom of speech and academic freedom are balanced with student safety and respect.
  • Know safe, practical options for bystander intervention.
