From idea to innovation: a look inside the making of our most transformative compliance training format
At VinciWorks, we’ve always been focused on making compliance training smarter, more relevant, and more effective. With Conversational Learning, we’ve done more than just launch a new product; we’ve reimagined how training is created, delivered, and experienced.
If you’ve already seen how Conversational Learning works in action, you know it feels different. But how was it actually built? What goes into developing a course where learners talk to an AI, and it talks back?
In our recent LinkedIn Live session, the team behind Conversational Learning shared an inside look at how these groundbreaking courses come together. From product development to instructional design, the conversation revealed the thinking, testing, and innovation that went into creating this new kind of training experience.
It started with a question: What if compliance could talk back?
This wasn’t about chasing AI trends. It was about solving a real problem: traditional training doesn’t always stick.
So we started with a simple experiment: combining VinciWorks’ decades of compliance expertise with the latest advancements in AI and natural language processing. The results were promising. Quickly, a vision emerged: what if we could turn a static course into a real conversation?
The brain behind the bot: Building a reliable AI trainer
AI in compliance training needs to be smart, but also safe. We can’t have it making things up. That’s why we built a proprietary system, not a generic chatbot.
We trained our AI using content from over 800 VinciWorks courses and thousands of real-world compliance scenarios. Then we fine-tuned it with input from our compliance experts, to make sure every response meets our quality standards.
We spent months testing: feeding the AI unexpected inputs, edge cases, even off-topic questions. Our goal: make sure that every path a learner takes still leads to accurate, helpful guidance.
Course creation, reimagined
Designing Conversational Learning courses isn’t like building a slide deck.
Instead of writing long blocks of content, our instructional designers script out questions, answers, decision points, and guidance — almost like writing a dialogue for a virtual coach.
We ask: What scenarios might a learner face? What choices will they need to make? How should the AI respond if they get it right — or wrong?
We didn’t start from scratch—and that’s a good thing.
One big advantage? Our massive course library. Many Conversational Learning courses are built from existing VinciWorks content. We repurpose what works and restructure it into dialogue.
This gives the AI more context and allows for personalised, off-script responses when learners ask their own questions.
Quality tested, expert reviewed
Conversational Learning courses aren’t just deployed, they’re stress-tested. Every course goes through:
- Dozens of real-use test runs
- QA reviews by multiple team members
- Input from subject matter experts
- Attempts to “break” the AI with odd or irrelevant inputs
Even better? The AI is trained to handle detours gracefully. Ask it about pizza toppings, and it might respond with:
“Mushrooms are a solid choice — but let’s get back to anti-money laundering.”
Designed to feel human
A huge part of course development is tone. The AI sounds like a friendly, helpful coach, not a robotic rule enforcer. We built in gentle encouragement, subtle humor, and empathetic phrasing so that learners stay motivated, even when they’re struggling.
